ORCA issues Flood Watch - July 16, 2024

FLOOD WATCH - Issued for all waterbodies and watercourses within the jurisdiction of Otonabee Conservation.
Issued to: Municipalities of Selwyn, Douro-Dummer, Asphodel-Norwood, Otonabee-South Monaghan, Cavan Monaghan, City of Kawartha Lakes, City of Peterborough and Trent Hills, local water managers, and Otonabee Conservation’s other partners in flood emergency management.
This FLOOD WATCH is issued to alert municipalities, residents and businesses that the potential for flooding exists within all waterbodies and watercourses and municipalities.
WEATHER: 40 to 60 mm of rain are possible today, Tuesday, July 16th due to the passing of a cold front causing severe thunderstorms and heavy downpours.
On Wednesday July 17, isolated showers or non-severe thunderstorms are possible.
HYDROLOGY: Present lake levels and river and stream flows are above normal for this time of year. Significant rainfall today is likely to cause the rapid rise of water levels and flows, causing flooding.
ACTIONS: Residents of flood prone areas and shorelines are advised to stay be prepared for potential flooding and stay aware of local weather conditions and alerts over the next 48 hours. Recreational water users are urged to remain cautious because high water levels and flows will continue through the weekend
